Cory Friedman is only five years old when he develops the neurological disorder Tourette's with OCD. Thus begins his harrowing medical journey of doctors and pills as he tries to find a way to control his disorder. Cory deals with severe tics and compulsions of which he has no control. Over the course of 13 years, he will be prescribed over 30 pills. The side-effects of the medications are sometimes worse than the disorder. The story tells of how Cory works to deal with his disorder, frustrations, increasing anger, and drug abuse. It's also the story of Cory's family and their continued efforts to help their son. "Med Head: My Knock-Down, Drag-Out, Drugged-Up Battle with My Brain," is an engaging, first-person narrative that is truly disturbing and inspirational. The novel has short chapters that are very accessible to readers.
