Description
Clara Lemlich arrived in America with dreams of a better life. She spoke no English and soon learned that school was a luxury. So she went to school at night and worked during the day to help support her parents. She found work sewing clothes in the garment industry. The conditions were awful!! Clara said enough was enough and became the leader of the largest women's strike in the United States. All her life Clara worked hard to help workers. Thanks to Clara, we now work 5 days a week, get paid overtime, and safer working conditions. Clara is truly an inspiration.
