In Mare’s world, there are Reds and there are Silvers. Reds are the poorest, most wretched, and at the mercy of the Silvers. Silvers are the leaders. They were blessed with supernatural abilities that they use to control the Reds. Mare is a Red who steals to help feed her family. A surprise meeting with a stranger leads to to a job at the royal palace. Mare thinks this is her salvation but it might turn out to be a curse.
