Inspired from an actual estate appraisal document from 1828, “Freedom Over Me,” envisions the lives and dreams of 11 slaves sold from the Fairchilds estate. Real people, living real lives, with real talent, with real talent were bought, sold and loaned out just like cattle. The author has done a wonderful job of imagining each person's history, longing and skill set that were overlooked by many during this time in history. Illustrated in part with historical documents pertaining to slavery, this book would make an excellent addition to any library.
