Living near the Mexican-American border, twelve year old Guero is constantly getting comments about his appearance. Being latino with red hair and freckles, he wishes he were darker skinned so people wouldn’t question his heritage. His family see it differently. Through poetry, he tells of his experiences with friends, family, tradition and girls.
