In 1962, three women come together to write a book about "the help" Jackson, Mississippi. Skeeter is home, a recent college graduate who dreams of becoming a writer. Her mother and friends dream about her finding a husband. Aibileen is a black maid raising her 17th white child. Her only son died recently and now the she is seeing everything around her differently. Minny, Aibileen's best friend, has lost another job due to her sassy tongue. She may have just found the perfect job if her past deeds stay hidden. These women have nothing in common but a desire to be break free of society's rules and expectations. Skeeter, Aibileen, and Minny collaborate to write an extraordinary book about the uneasy relationship between "the black help" and their white employers.
