James Herman Banning dreamed of flying as a child. When news hit Oklahoma about the Wright brother's flying machine, James knew he needed one. He would chase his dream of becoming a pilot all through adulthood. It took him years to find someone willing to teach an African American man to fly. James would never give up even helped open an all African American airshow. In 1932, James set out to be the first African American man to fly across America.
