Informative and appealing, this biography of Amelia Earhart is a delightful read. An adult points out a plane in the sky to Amelia when she is 11, but the flying bug did not bite until Amelia was a nurse's aide during World War I. By the 1920's, Amelia was famous for setting many flying records, including being the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The story is told from her childhood to her disappearance in 1937. It includes many sidebars and historical photos as well as paintings that depict the beauty of flight. Read this book to those kids who can't wait to take-off on their own adventures.
