On the first day at a new school, Peppi, knows that you must follow 2 rules to survive: Don’t get noticed by the mean kids. Seek out groups with similar interests and join them. She fails miserably by getting noticed by the the school bullies when she falls and Jaime the “school nerd” helps her up. The bullies call her “nerder girlfriend” so out of anger she pushes the Jaime. She does succeed at rule #2 but she forever embarrassed by her treatment of Jaime. Things get really awkward when her club and his club go to war. Will Peppi apologize? Will the war end before the clubs are shut down for good? Awkward is an outstanding graphic novel that is hilarious but also moving. A must read.
