Chernobyl's Wild Kingdom: Life in the Dead Zone

Rebecca L. Johnson
Description
Three decades ago in southwestern Russia, there was a nuclear accident. On April 26, 1986 one of the nuclear reactors at the Chernobyl plant exploded. This was the worst nuclear accident in the world. Humans in the city and villages within an eighteen mile radius were evacuated, never to return. The area became a dead zone. Scientist all over the world agreed that nothing would be able to survive in the dead zone. Nature proved them wrong. Plants and animals survived and many are now thriving in the dead zone. How and why did this happen? If the animals can survive, why can’t humans? Chernobyl's Wild Kingdom is a story of the animal's survival, and the scientists who are looking for answers.
