Thirteen year-old Logan Forbes and his family have just moved from Richmond to the small town of Bealesville, Virginia. He is greeted by his new neighbor, Arthur, who tells Logan right off that the previous owner, Mrs. Donaldson, had been murdered in his new house. Mrs. Donaldson was killed while under an umbrella of suspicion. She was rumored to have embezzled millions from The Magic Forest, a local amusement park, and she was murdered by people looking for the stolen money. Logan and his new friend make it their summer quest to solve the mystery of the murder and the missing funds. Their search will take them all over the small town from the lowest to the highest levels of society. As Logan and Arthur come closer to solving the mystery, they are confronted by people who will stop at nothing to get that money. This is an enjoyable read with just the right amount of suspense and adventure. It is sure to be a winner with middle grade readers. This book was an Edgar Allan Poe Award Winner 2010 - Best Juvenile.
