Educated: A Memoir

Tara Westover
Description
Tara never attended school until she was 17. Tara was not immunized or saw a doctor until she was an adult. Tara’s parents could not remember the day or year she was born. Raised by survivalist parents in the mountains of Idaho, Tara spent her time preparing for the end of the world or helping her mother, a midwife or healer. Tara and her family were isolated from everyone but a few people they saw in their small community or church. And there was no one to help when one of her brothers became more and more violent. It is not until another brother leaves the mountain for college does Tara see another way to live her life. She teachers herself enough math, grammer and science to take the ACT and get into college at 17. College truly opens Tara’s eyes to so many truths and different perspectives. Eventually, Tara will study at Harvard and Cambridge University. As Tara begins to view the world and her upbringing through a different lens, her relationship with her family begins to break down. Will she be able to go home again? Educated is a riveting coming of age memoir with will make you angry, uncomfortable, and ultimately inspired.
