Ghost Hawk

Susan Cooper
Description
Little Hawk is coming of age in his tribe at the age of eleven. He will make a journey into the wild to find his spirit Manitou. This will require him to stay one winter alone in the wild, caring for himself. If he succeeds he will return to his village in the spring with honor and as a tribal adult. His father has given him a tomahawk that he made for him by growing the branches of a tree around a very sharp blade when he was just born. Little Hawk is both excited and scared to face the unknown. Much like his colonial counterpart John Wakely who has moved with his family to colonial Massachusetts. Winters here are harsh and John’s family is discovering that they don’t know as much about survival in the wild as they thought. Each is a tale of survival that will be brought together by their unlikely friendship.
