One day in the scenic town of Perdido Beach everyone over 13 years-old disappeared. They disappeared performing their everyday activities, such as the grandfather who disappears while driving, leaving his granddaughter severely injured or the mother who left the stove burners on that lead to a fire trapping her infant. Some of the kids try to create order as food and medical supplies diminish and bullies start to victimize the young and weak. Even stranger than the disappearance of all the adults though, are the bizarre, sometimes terrifying powers that some of the kids are developing, not to mention the rapidly mutating animals or the impenetrable wall 20 miles in diameter that encircles them. Gone is a mix of Lord of the Rings and a Stephen King novel. The action and conflict between good and evil and brave and cowardly will keep readers riveted.
