Abilene Tucker has been sent away. Her father has taken a job with the railroad and become fearful of raising a 12 year old on the road. So he has sent her to his hometown of Manifest to stay with longtime friend Pastor Shady. Broken hearted at being sent away, and unsure of exactly how long she will be staying in Manifest, Abilene decides to learn something about her father's past. But no one seems to know her father, and the only one willing to share any stories with her is the crazy gypsy fortuneteller Miss Sadie. It is up to Abilene to sort out the truth of what Miss Sadie is saying, and in doing so she uncovers a few secrets in Manifest. Will she "Leave well enough alone!" as the note left for her suggests?
