Ivan is a gorilla that lives in the Big Top Mall and Arcade. He has been there over 9,000 days. People think he is mighty. However, Ivan thinks he is just Ivan. He lives at the mall with his elephant friend Stella and a rascal of a dog named Bob. His one regular visitor is a little girl that draws and gives him crayons & paint. It's this one talent that Ivan's owner thinks will make people want to come to the mall. But, what no one realizes is how much more Ivan's talent will help everyone he cares about. "The One and Only Ivan" is told from the perspective of the gorilla, simple yet reflective. The reader gets a series of thoughts as Ivan observes all that is happening around him.
