Operation Mincemeat

Ben MacIntyre
Description
During World War II in addition to the heroic battles and maneuvers carried out by the Allied Forces in Europe, an equally daring battle of strategy and deception was undertaken by British Intelligence. Their role was to infiltrate the German Adwehr and misinform them about the Allied troop's war plans. Admiral Godffrey and his famous assistant, Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond Novels, oversaw British Intelligence's spy operations from Room 13. One such operation was "Operation Mincemeat" which purposely misinformed the German military command about the war effort in the Mediterranean. For "Operation Mincemeat" British Intelligence faked the death of an imaginary British officer, planted fake confidential documents on the body, and allowed the body and the documents to fall into the hands of German spies to complete the deception. "Operation Mincemeat" chronicles this far-fetched deception.
