Ophelia Jane Worthington Whittard is stuck in a gloomy museum for the holidays with her father and her morose older sister Alice. Mr. Whittard is organizing a priceless collection of swords for the museum and he has brought the girls to keep him company after the death of their mother. Everyone is missing her on this first Christmas. The museum is as cold as the snow outside, so Ophelia wanders the rooms looking at the exhibits to pass the time. But all is not as it seems in this museum. Doors are locked and things come alive at night. Ophelia soon discovers there is a boy locked away in one of the rooms. As for Mrs. Kaminski the museum curator, she is anything but the charming hostess, she wants Ophelia's father to believe she is.
