Revolution
Description
Like her book "Countdown", Deborah Wiles has written an engrossing book about a time period in which change was inevitable but painful. It is the story of Sunny, a 12 year-old girl living in Greenwood Mississippi in 1964. Invaders are coming and they are not aliens but people from North. They are coming to Mississippi for Freedom Summer. Their goal is to register African-Americans to vote. Their arrival and mission is met with great opposition from the white folks of Mississippi who do not want their way of life to change. Sunny feels personally invaded by her new stepmom, stepbrother, and stepsister. There will come a time when Sunny will have to choose which side to take in this new world and make a stand. Will Sunny but up for the challenge? Wiles uses song lyrics, photographs, speeches, essays, and interviews that give the reader a true sense of the time period. "Revolution" is poignant and hopeful. It will stay with your long after you read the last page.
