Ultra glamorous and slightly rich Melissa from Detroit has moved into the small town of Mitchell Hammock Florida and has destroyed Violet Raines world as if it got struck by lightning. Her very best friend Lottie has changed her name to Char, is wearing makeup just like Melissa, and is acting like she's more Melissa's best friend every day. Her other buddy from birth, Eddie is acting weird around Violet now that Melissa has accused him of being Violet's boyfriend, and that leaves no one for Violet. All this change is wrecking her last summer before middle school.
