Wicked Girls - A Novel of the Salem Witch Trials
Description
Wicked Girls is a fictional novel about the Salem witch trials of 1692. Based on true historical characters and events, it is told in verse from the perspective of three young ladies: Mercy Lewis, Margaret Walcott, and Ann Putnam Jr. It begins when two girls fall ill and begin to have fits and visions that are attributed to witchcraft. Soon Ann, Margaret and Mercy are afflicted with the ability to see who among them are truly witches and wizards. It soon becomes apparent that these powerless women now have the power to target those that have harmed them or their families with accusations of witchcraft. Before long, people are jailed and hanged based on the girl's claims. But as more and more villagers question their abilities, the girls begin to fall apart due to jealousy, guilt, peer pressure, and over who will lead their group. A gripping, fantastically written novel, "Wicked Girls," is a compelling read. Pair this with Arthur Miller's, "The Crucible. "
