Sol and Connie Blink are new to Grand Creek. They move to town with their father (who is acting very strange) and stepmother. They quickly meet their new neighbor, Faye Holaderry, and her dog. Science buff Sol notices that her dog has an unusual bone in its mouth. He discovers it is a human femur. After an internet search, library visit, and a daring incident at Faye's house, Sol and Connie come to realize that they are in real danger. This is a modernized version of Hansel and Gretel that is sure to please even the most reluctant reader. The shaded pencil drawings increase the sense of foreboding and danger.
