Zeitoun

Dave Eggers
Description
Abdulrahman Zeitoun was a painting contractor in New Orleans at the time of hurricane Katrina. He had several jobs going at different houses and the opportunity to make some extra money boarding up houses against the storm when he sent his wife and children to higher ground to wait out the storm. Customers and family kept constant phone contact with him as he checked on houses and gathered up materials until the full impact of Katrina hit eliminating power to his house and sending him scurrying to plug up holes in the windows and the roof of his own house. But the full impact of the storm was nothing compared to the rush of water that arrived when the levees broke or the harsh treatment he endured when military police falsely accused him of being a terrorist. This true story examines the parameters of racial profiling and prejudice against the pandemonium of post Katrina New Orleans. proceeds from this book go to the Zeitoun Foundation to aid in the rebuilding of New Orleans and to ensure human rights to all Americans.
