Madeleine Roux, author of the Asylum series, has done it again: wrote a fantastic spooky Gothic tale. Louisa has not had an easy life. After running away from an especially terrible boarding school with a sadistic headmaster, she has been living hand to mouth on the streets of London. A chance encounter changes her luck. She begins to work as a maid at Coldthistle House, but all is not as it seems. The owner is Mr. Morningside and the lodgers are far from innocents. Most have committed deeds that are beyond redemption. It seems Mr. Morningside and staff have putting their own brand of justice on some of the lodgers. Louisa believes that one guest, Lee, is innocent and decides to save him from Mr. Morningside’s justice. But is he innocent? Aren't’ we all guilty of something? Who can Louisa trust?
