Schomburg: The Man Who Built a Library

Description
“Where is our historian to give us our side, Arturo asked, to teach our people our own history” . This is the question Arturo asked his 5th grade teacher. She responded, “Africa’s sons and daughters had no history, no heroes worth noting.” As an Afro-Puerto Rican man, Arturo made it his life's work to find and collect historical books, letters, music, and art created by people of African ancestry. His collection was so important it was considered the “cornerstone” of the Division of Negro History, Literature and Prints at the New York Public Library. It eventually became the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Schomburg: The Man Who Built a Library is a fascinating look at man who spent his life finding and preserving history.
